1. ABOUT CTA
The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) is a joint international institution of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States and the European Union (EU). Its mission is to advance food and nutritional security, increase prosperity and encourage sound natural resource management in ACP countries.
It facilitates access to information and knowledge; supports evidence-based, multi-stakeholder development of agricultural policies and strategies; promotes inclusive value chain development and use of ICTs and strengthens the capacities of agricultural and rural development institutions and communities.
2. BACKGROUND AND MAIN PURPOSE OF THE INTERNSHIP
Central to achieving CTA’s mission are CTA’s valued partnerships with ACP national and regional bodies. CTA also works with a wide network of ACP-EU public and private sector bodies as well as international organizations around the world.
One of CTA’s three strategic goals is to support priority agricultural value chains in ACP regions that contribute to food and nutritional security and poverty reduction.
CTA’s Value Chain programme concentrates on two critical and inter-linked issues: (i) the value chain governance which refers to the institutional, organizational and regulatory framework in which the chain is operating and the relationships between the stakeholders; and (ii) the value chain competitiveness which relates to the ability of actors in the chain to meet buyers’ demands at prices that are competitive and provide adequate returns…
